The Legendary Living Chess Game of Marostica 2026

From September 4 to 12, 2026, the celebrated Marostica Chess Square turns into a monumental open-air chessboard for the new edition of the historical Living Chess Game.

The re-enactment, based on the theatrical work by Mirko Vucetich, brings to life the 15th-century tale of Lady Lionora, whose romantic dispute was decided by a chess match instead of a bloody duel. More than 650 performers dressed in Renaissance costumes, along with flag-wavers, ladies, and knights, will fill the square with majestic choreography and avant-garde stage effects.
