Rome Explores Matisse’s Works on Paper

Rome Explores Matisse's Paper Works
From February 28 to June 28, 2026, the Historical Museum of Infantry in Rome presents an exhibition dedicated to the final creative phase of Henri Matisse, featuring over 100 works from private collections. The exhibition project is structured into four sections and focuses on the artist’s work on paper: lithographs, drawings on tracing paper, illustrated books, and compositions created with painted, cut, and reassembled sheets. The showcase also traces the more essential research developed by Matisse from the 1940s, including illustrations, stage designs, and signs reduced to their essence. Key sections of the journey include Verve, with 44 black-and-white lithographs and drawings; Artist’s Books and Illustrated Books, with 24 drawings related to “Une fête en Cimmérie” and “Lettres Portugaises”; the section on Jazz with 20 lithographic plates; and the concluding part titled The Drawing. The exhibition is curated by Vittoria Mainoldi and produced by Navigare Srl.
