Ancient Selargino Wedding 2026: Celebrating the Campidanese Nuptial Rite

From 10 to 20 September 2026, the town of Selargius celebrates the historic reenactment of the Ancient Selargino Wedding (Sa Coja Antiga Cerexina), an event of extraordinary anthropological and cultural significance that brings the solemn Campidanese wedding back to life in every detail.

The event offers a rich programme of celebrations: displays of finely embroidered traditional dress at Casa Cara, theatrical comedies in dialect, tastings in the Village of Taste, and musical performances. The highlight comes on Sunday 20 September with the lavish procession featuring more than fifty folk groups in period attire.

It will be followed by Mass celebrated in the Campidanese Sardinian language with the evocative rite of sa cadena, the chain that binds the couple’s hands to symbolise the indissolubility of the union, the traditional flight of white doves, and the signing of the love promise kept for twenty-five years in the Romanesque parish church of San Giuliano.
